Meet Our Teachers

Bsc. (Ed)

Bachelor of Arts in Languages, a Bachelor of Arts Honours in Linguistics, several certificates in Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and I’ll soon be adding my Masters of Arts in Linguistic

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see." Henry David Thoreau

My work experience includes lecturing cognitive and applied linguistics at Unisa (online), tutoring WITS Education students in English (online and in-person), and teaching TESOL online through iTutor and informally in my personal capacity in-person and online. I am therefore comfortable in both the ODL and classroom/lecture hall environment, and have worked with learners from a range of language, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. As a professional writer, I excel in communication and in creating educational material.

I only discovered my passion for education within the past decade, but that passion was so great that I made a massive career and life change, leaving my position as the director of a company for junior lecturing position at Unisa. I believe that South Africa is so rich in human potential, but that it is essential that as educators we need to excel in every aspect of our work – from our knowledge to our approaches to our attitudes – in order to help unlock that potential and contribute to the future of our students and our country. My aim in working with children and young people is therefore to help them explore the kaleidoscope of possibilities the world holds, develop their potential, and see themselves for the eternal, magnificent beings they are.

I hold a Masters in Linguistics, specialising in Cognitive Linguistics, which has enriched me with a deeper insight into the relationship between language and the human mind, further enhancing my teaching and writing skills and abilities. I am presently in the process of applying for acceptance as a PhD candidate; in my doctoral studies I plan to undertake exploratory, action research in translanguaging with the ODL space.
